The Flintman Company Limited specialises in the conservation and restoration of flint, lime and masonry. Established in 1989 we are based in Lewes, East Sussex, and undertake flint work across the country, but predominantly in the South East.

With a reputation for attention to aesthetic detail, excellent workmanship, reliability, approachability and friendliness, we have built a solid and loyal client base. We are active within both the heritage and ‘new build’ sectors, undertaking contracts of all sizes and providing consultancy services. We work with private clients, main contractors, conservation organisations, architects, conservation officers and heritage consultants.

With a wealth of experience and knowledge in flint, the Flintman Company is committed to encouraging good practice.

We are dedicated to raising the profile of flint and lime, preserving traditional techniques and promoting their use. We have a particular interest in exploring innovative ways to use flint in construction.

Our commitment to flint extends to training the next generation of craftspeople, the owners of flint structures and the general public. We give talks and presentations (including “walks and talks” through the flint countryside). We have organised exhibitions and, for the last twelve years, have run courses on flint.

The Company has been featured in numerous television programmes and publications. Examples include the C4 Grand Designs Building of the Year, BBC’s Countryfile, the C4 series ‘Lost Buildings’ and ‘Landshapers: Voices from the South Downs Landscape’, a series of six audio programmes commissioned by the South Downs National Park Authority.

The company has won many awards. 2015 was a particularly good year being awarded the RIBA House of the Year, as main flint contractor with The Flint House, and with a different project, were main flint and masonry contractor at the Church of St Botolph, East Sussex which was awarded the RIBA Regional and Conservation Award.
